Web Page Content Search Engines See
In this article we will focus on the content of the web page.
Web page content is all the information between the <body> and </body> tags of the web page. This is the web page content that the visitor will see and the search engine spider looks at while visiting your web page.
There is certain web page content (or features) that make it difficult for the search engines to index the pages within a website. These include doorway (splash) pages, flash, HTML frames, HTML tables, heading structure and javascript.
Doorway Pages and Splash Pages
Splash pages and doorway pages are usually graphically oriented. Doorway pages (also known as splash pages) contain a graphic or limited web page content. These type of pages are used as an entrance to a website or to redirect the visitor to another page.

Flash Web Sites
Flash web sites are built using a Macromedia technology called Flash. Flash websites do not contain text for search engines to read. All the search engine is going to see is the coding for the flash movie as the content in a flash website. All the content for the whole site is contained inside the flash movie.
HTML Frames
Websites created with HTML frames do not contain web page content for search engines to index. Websites that are HTML frame based are also not user friendly. When a website is built using html frames all the search engine spider (web crawler) will see is the links to the pages within the frameset.
HTML Tables
Search engines read tables from left to right, row by row. Some search engines display the first 20 or so words of a web page as the description in their results. For search engine optimization the web page content needs to be positioned so it is read first.

Heading Structure
Each search engine has a different way of prioritizing the importance of headings therefore it is important to use the heading tags correctly to create proper heading structure.

Javascript and Search Engine Optimization
Javascript is a scripting language web authors use to create interactive websites. Javascript can interact with HTML coding to create dynamic content such as dynamic navigation menus. For search engine optimization javascript dynamic menus have to be written in a fashion that search engines can see and index the links it contains.

There are a few other things that hinder the search engine spiders:
Clean HTML Code - Cleaning Up HTML Coding
Eliminate excessive and non compliant coding, move presentation HTML coding to the stylesheet. Doing this will result in compliant and clean HTML code that will make it easier for the search engine spider to index your web page.

The HTML Document Structure
If the HTML document structure is incorrect the web page can break or the search engine spider may not be able to read the page.

Meta Tags - HTML Meta Tags
HTML Meta tags are coding inserted in the head section of the web page that is not seen by the page visitor but communicates information to the browser and some search engines.
